Ken,
     How long a dry season does it need?  The climate here is more of a summer rain climate, but some rain can fall any time of the year.  Late March to late May or early June is the driest time here.  I probably could put it under the eaves and have a 'more dry' time for it there, or if it could be grown in a pot, put it on the porch and not water it for the time it needed dry.  Winter temperatures can be a factor because we have been as cold as 12° F, but it would not be that low in the sheltered spots.
