Re: Iris attica (was more questions from the newbie)

Thank you, everyone, who offered tutelage both on-list and off regarding
chromosomes and ploidy. At this point, my poor brain is close to
spontaneous combustion with all this. I think I need to do as Francesca
suggested and sit down with pencil and paper to write out chromosome
numbers, pairings, and how they all relate to ploidy. Dave did some of
that in his explanation, but now I have to see if I can create such
useful visual aids on my own. Little by little, it's starting to sink in
.. emphasis on "little". ;-)

Or maybe I'll just go find a nice, friendly gorilla to hang out with
(everyone but Sandy can ignore that remark). ;-)

On to the next question ... now that I have had a few seeds sprout a root
(today I found my first beardless sprout - a setosa), I am wondering how
long after the root appears will there be growth at the other end as
well? Each time I find a seed with a root starting, I pot it up and put
it under lights in my basement. When can I expect to see top growth -
days, weeks?

Thank you, again, for your indulgence,

Laurie
