Re: Iris graminea seeds question

The SIGNA seed sale has a pretty good record for having things named right.  It might be that precious sale chairmen have been able to recognize seeds.  In my case, it is because people have sent correct names with their seeds.  I don't recognize more than a dozen kinds of iris by their seeds.
I just wanted to make sure if these seeds were ours so, if so, we could let people know if something was incorrectly named.

There's several varieties of Iris graminea available in this year's SIGNA seed fund.  (At first that's where I thought yours came from, but I guess not?)  I'm certain the seeds I donated were the real deal.  My clump of graminea is many years old now and quite large.  It grows in the shade of a juvenile burr oak tree and gets morning & evening sun.  It produced a huge quantity of flowers last year.  This year should be even better!

The seeds came from a "continental" seed firm. I am not really upset enough to complain, the other packets of seeds
were very generous. It will be a surprise aril, that's for sure.

Also the Iris Encyclopedia has galleries of images of many seeds (note be sure to scroll down) at http://wiki.irises.org/bin/vie w/Main/InfoPhotoGalleryOfSeeds  The arillate seeds sound enticing. you may have gotten seed far rarer than Iris graminea.

It's embedded in the email rather than attached. It's some problem at your end. You can see the photos on the SIGNA web site: http://signa.org/index.pl?Disp lay+Iris-graminea+2

For future reference there are photos of the seeds of many of the iris species in the species database on the website: http://signa.org/index.pl?Data base

Attached is a photo of I. graminea seed that is normal.  There are a couple of variations, but I do not believe either have arils.

I ordered seeds of the "plum scented Spuria" Iris graminea. Normally I open and inspect the package, but I put
it aside until I was ready to plant. All 5 seeds in ther package had white Arils, that is, a ring or collar at one end of the seed.
Surely I. graminea is a Spuria, and not an Aril, or arilbred? Or is this the normal appearance of this species' seeds?
Hope someone can help, I have a feeling I am going to be in for a surprise when they bloom.
