Re: Re: GA-3 for seed germination

Jim;
Very interesting. I have 4 seeds soaking in the toilet tank and with about 20 days to go. I did scar the seeds. After which, I will treat 2 with GA-3 and the other 2 I'll sow without any treatment. We will have to compare notes. I've not had any success with the i. virginicas
which I attribute to lack of scarring.

I've got about 350 seeds from i. virginica 'Orchid Pink', (via bees) on
which I was going to try an experiment.  My experience with virginica is
that most come up the second year. Thought I'd split the lot up this way:

50 seeds normal (outdoors in a pot, let nature do it)
50 seeds normal as above, but treated with GA-3
50 seeds soaked, chilled (8 weeks in fridge, ~35F) , and put out as above
50 seeds soaked, GA-3'd, chilled as above, and put out as above
50 seeds soaked, chilled, and kept in the house (~70F)
50 seeds soaked, GA-3'd, chilled, and kept in the house (~70F)

There are a large number of possibly permutations, but this seems a
reasonable start. Open to any suggestions as to changing the plan! But
quick, want to do this next week....
