I'm Rafa Díez from Spain (tem0dium, as a nikname) I'm an enthusiastic of Iridaceae specially Iris (oncocyclus, regelia, scorpiris, hermodactyloides and xiphium section)
Are you collect any of this sections?
It's very difficult to find some sources of aril irises, even if you are an ASI member.
Hey(hello in hillbilly) Rafa My climate is not great for arilate iris. It can be hot and dry or hot and wet. I have to place some iris carefully or they will rot rather than grow. I am not successful more often then successful in trying to grow irids out of their native habitat. I just try to be happy when I find something that is suitable for my garden. ASI is one good resource, but you must keep your eyes and ears open for others. Signa and BIS sometimes have amazing seeds available. Don't discount the Dutch growers as they have provided hard to find iris in quantity. Some speciality growers are a godsend, such as Alan McMurtrie of Canada (http://reticulatas.com/) and Janis Ruksans of Latvia (don't have a link handy).
I. reticulata blooms every year here but is slow to increase. Most Junos(scorpiris) thrive to the point of needing dividing every two or three years, and even self sow. I. hermodactylis is too tender to flower but persists unhappily. The 'Dutch Iris' begin to grow in late fall are so damaged by spring they rarely survive more then a year or two. I have not found a healthy source of english iris, dutch bulbs of this iris always arrive dried to the point of death.
I had a wonderful collection of I. cristata until the sixteen month drought happened. Most vanished that were not in heavy shade or near an artificial source of water.
Oh no, beginning to babble, will stop here.
