And one more thing that has come to mind – soil temperature.

 

A friend that lives about 60 miles south of here - in an area colder than Anchorage – sends me a monthly e-mail about her soil temperatures.  I think that her thermocouple is about 4-6 inches below the surface.  (I need to ask her that depth again.)  She has been recording the temperature about once a month for about a decade.  Here is the message I received today:

 

Soil temperature is 28º which is high normal.  We've only had about a foot of snow, total, this winter.

Air temps have been moderate...generally 0ºF and above.

 

I thought you all might be interested in this since we have been talking about air temperatures.
