It sounds like you ordered seeds that were in short supply. There are warnings about ordering such seeds. If you are not among the first people to order it, they will be sold out. So it is recommended that you provide a list of substitutes.
I'm the webmaster, and our software is not that sophisticated! It is not electronically integrated with orders received via regular post or by other means. Every week or so the seed chairs send me a list of sold out seeds and I update the website. We don't have an automated system like Amazon or something. This seed list and website is handled by unpaid volunteers! There is plenty of explanation & warnings about ordering seed in short supply. If only 10 seeds are donated of a rare species... many people will try to purchase it... but only 2 or 3 people will be successful.
