Re: seeds from SIGNA

Hi Loic,

Sorry you were disappointed in your seeds. Perhaps we've not done a very good job of managing expectations as we have moved to the web.

You must understand that this is not a commercial operation. The web site makes it look very slick (Thanks Dennis!) but behind the scenes are a very few hard working volunteers. Most of the real work has been done but just two individuals, Jim Waddick and Jim Murrain. As few points:

1. We cannot control the number of seed available. These are donated. Some lots come with as few a 10 seeds! These also tend to be the seeds that are most in demand. The web site clearly states:

After each item in the seed list, you will find an abbreviation estimating the total number of seeds available.  VF = Very Few Seeds (less than 25) available. These will sell out immediately.

25 seeds = 5 pkt, enough to fill 5 orders. We received 30 order in December.  In the first week of January there were 50 orders!

2. The web site also says:

Be sure to check substitutes when ordering seeds marked VF or FW.

You absolutely must check substitutes or you will get less than you paid for or you will get subs chosen for you.

3. It's just not practical to update the web site daily give the volunteer nature of the operation. See Dennis' post.

I hope you won't give up on the seed exchange. It may be that your interests are so narrow (I'm not being critical here) that it won't be very useful to you, but maybe your interest will widen. (I had no interest in the "other irids" until I joined SIGNA. Now I look towards the exchange as my main supply of those seeds.)  Also, you can still participate and improve the exchange by donating seed. Note that it is called an "EXCHANGE." It will only work so long as people that grow interesting things share their seeds.

Subject: [iris-species] seeds from SIGNA

i got some seeds from SIGNA today, but i was very disappointed.

Out of the 5 crosses i had ordered , i only received 2,  with respectively 4 and 5 seeds, and no explanation about the 3 missing packets.

how come the software didn't tell me they were no longer on offer and made me pay for them...

I received 2 other crosses that i didn't order, with 7 and 9 seeds  i couldn't be bothered with,   without any explanation as well .

I had already sent emails to the generous donators, i will have to write and apologize for not receiving their seeds.....

This was a first, that will be my last attempt.
All my hopes raised for a mere 9 seeds, i don't find this joke funny.

Yes, I just got the mail. Now I'm really behind on planting iris seeds.
I have 18 packets I bought from J & J Archibald that I'm "just about to"
start soaking.

Isn't that always the way?! I only got a few packets of seeds this
year. But one of them has a ton of seeds in it.... the Iris x
norrisii. I definitely got my money's worth on that one!

Also -- for those of you that haven't ordered your seeds yet -- quite a
few are already sold out. The list has been updated on the website. As
always, the first to go are the arils & arilbreds. That group never has
enough seeds to meet the demand. It's such a shame!
