Re: I. milesii source? Maybe ?? More Milesi

Actually I hope milesi will tolerate outdoor conditions because I am quite interested in having enough plants to have a go at making inter-specific crosses with it. I'd be looking for a hardier partner now after seeing how little response it seemed to have for fall dormancy/winter survival. Of course one plant is a limited observation - time will tell.

Sean,

Exactly my thoughts!

What other species would you pair it with?

I'd hoped that milesii would be hardy here but when I saw a spent bloom the resemblance to I. dichotoma was striking! Sam Norris had little more to go on when he made the cross that resulted in Pardancanda norissi.

I'd just planted out seeds from a strain of dichotoma with a wider range of colors (lavender, blue, pink, cream, and pale yellow) and the prospect of a hardy, longer lived clump of milesii type plants with a good color range was irresistible.

Of course, I could wind up with a short lived, milesii type that doesn't clump well and only shows lavender...
