Thanks for all the comments.  Sounds like there are some unsolvable mysteries here.  I wonder what are the chances of going back the original locations for I. kashmiriana (or contacting somebody who lives there) and collecting what is growing there.   Here is one thing I stumbled across on line, but haven't had time to check it out.  It would be interesting to find out just what is for sale here and try to import some of it to the US.  Has anyone here bought plants from this source?   http://www.burncoose.co.uk/catlg.cfm?opt=I&plant=IRIS   Dave.
