Re: African Iris

I was hoping someone could you, Mark.  But I guess not many members are growing African Iris.  I tried growing some from seed a few years ago, but lost them during winter.

Are they rhizomatous?  If so I'd expect a piece of them to survive no matter where you planted them.

Good luck!

A short time ago, I lifted a clump of the yellow African Iris that for some reason did not look happy.  I found it to be infested with Fire Ants.  The <self-censored> Fire Ants were operating in some of the potting mix that it was in when I bought it a couple years ago.  So, I set the Iris in a container I put water in so the remaining Ants would leave or drown.  The Fire Ants were not present when I purchased the plant.
I wish to divide and replant this Iris in another location.  Do you all have any recommendations on how to do this?  I do not want to lose the Iris.  This is not the same plant that is totally happy and blooms like crazy.   Can this poor Iris be saved?
