Re: Iris serotina

Neat! High on my list for the late bloom time and weird leafless habit. I've got seed, but I think no germination yet.

I've been growing Iris serotina from seeds collected in Spain in 2009. I have the first bloom today. The BIS Guide to Species Iris says it is supposed to bloom in August; I guess mine are impatient. This relative of the Dutch iris has some interesting features. It has reduces standards similar to Iris setosa. In addition, the leaves wither by bloom time; only the stem and spathes are still green. Photos attached.
