The concept of invasive species is a current fad in the eco-activist community. While it has some reality it is also being somewhat overplayed and is more complex than one would realize. Iris pseudacorus and and other robust species may soon be banned from our gardens. One researching has completed her doctoral thesis creating a formula for anointing a species as invasive. According to her work 75 % of all garden plants would be thus categorized. The government already has laws in place that would allow them to confiscate anything designated as invasive and fine anyone growing invasives. The problems in our ecosystem are much more complex than these oversimplified solutions. The other view held by ecologists for many years was that exotics would not be able to compete successfully with natives in a stable mature ecosystem. Indeed the presence of exotics in the ecosystem was considered a signal that the system was being stressed in an unnatural way usually by mans activities. In many cases this may be a case of lets shoot the messenger. The question then arises are you attacking the problem or part of the solution.
