Dorothy et al,
        Versicolor & virginica are presumably the vector for iris borers to spread, and they must be more or less as submerged as pseudacorus.  So maybe pseudacorus is just a very successful reseeder.
        Here in central NY I've seen ponds completely taken over by pseudacorus, but in natural bodies of water I often see both pseudacorus and versicolor.  Pseudacorus in usually more numerous.

Hi Dennis,

I have trouble keeping I. pseudacorus in my garden because the borers love it so much.  However, there is a small lake near us which is completely ringed with it in the edge of the water.  Apparently, the borers can't do their dirty work while the plants are in water.
