Re: blue-eyed grass, & more

Dennis, Dorothy Willot's warning is certainly pertinant. The first
year we were here I discovered blue-eyed grass both on this property
and another at a lower elevation, wetlands character, owned by the
same step-son that owns the property on which we live.

At first I carefully guarded the obviously irid clumps, noted the
seeds--you have it right--small and black, carefully saving a number.

Within two years I was hoeing out every trace of the excessively
vigorous little things in and between the iris rows. Blue-eyed grass
was popping up everywhere. Then I discovered they *also* were a
haven for borer in the larger clumps, right along with *Iris
tectorum.* I cleared out a whole lot of both away from seedling beds
and newer named things as a step toward getting control of both
problems--spreading seeds and borer population explosions.

Blue-eyed grass is both tolerated and enjoyed in some locations now--
far away from other critically important iris and irids!

While I'm at it, a comment about *pseudacorus.* What I have now is
in a POT on the deck. I've lived with what it does to irrigation
header ditches, so never, never again in any wet place. The plant is
thriving as a potted plant, so what the heck. Makes it easy to dead-
head too.
