I
bought tridentata plants in 1999 and they were very slow to get going. in 2003 I
had enough to line them out so I moved them from a bed facing south with some
afternoon shade to a bed facing south with no shade. They've turned into
monsters! I probably have 500 of them and they're just starting to
bloom...should be a pretty sight in a few days... I keep them mulched, fertilize
them with 15-15-15 2-3 time each year and make sure they get an inch of water
each week.

able to germinate Iris tridentata. My trick was to plant the seeds
in pots in the pond. The pots were situated so that the seeds were
about half an inch above water, with a layer of gravel on top to help
suppress weeds. I used regular seed starter mix from Home Depot as
my "soil".
They were planted last year (spring & summer). A couple days ago I
finally noticed a flush of seedlings have germinated in several of
the pots. Each pot contains tridentata seeds from different sources.
So I am very, very happy about this! In the past I could not keep
Iris tridentata alive for more than 2 years, but I've never tried
them in my pond. Maybe that will be the key to success?
