I converted the swale at the back of the house into a drybed. Idea
was to keep the white doggy out of the mud. Terraced the ground above
the swale and raised it just a tad. It receives all the runoff from
the neighbor's yard as well as my backyard which slopes toward the
swale. Always stays damp or wet depending on rainfall. There is a
rock dust base which helps retain the moisture, but not swampy. The
La's must be reduced or they'll take over.
I have heard of people sinking a kiddie wading pool into the ground
for a bog area, though most of the pools are pretty garish..
