Wonderful irises! But the question of the day is ... what on earth
were you doing at your pond without your waders?! :-)
I really love your virginica alba. What's the story behind it? Did
you grow it from seed? Buy it? Find it in the wild?
The wadder incident: the workshop where I store them has been
invaded by pack-rats. They have a tendency to chew on everything and
seem to relish rubber and vinyl! An auto parked for too long is in
grave danger! When I spend more time at the farm I'll employee
several cats and a couple dogs as security. While the cabin has
plumbing, there are times I don't turn the water on as it has to be
drained afterwards, thus I also have an outhouse. The d___ed pack-
rats have filled it to the top with twigs, I get my revenge by using
their nest material as kindling in the wood stove.
I went crazy about virginica some years ago and traded for ,or
purchased every distinct form I could find. I don't remember where
the white came from. Also have a form called 'deluxe' and a wine red,
plus many collected locally. Some clumps are ten to twelve feet across!
Nothing there that I'm allergic to, not even poison ivy bothers me,
but the leeches and snapping turtles in the water keep me on dry land
and the ticks are absolutely terrible this year, ick! It's also
chigger season, oh joy!
