Re: Tsukiyono

Hi Dennis. No it is not normal. At least not in my garden. This is my third year growing it, and no deformities. Lots of flowers.

And speaking of Tsukiyono that leads me to a question.

First I'll introduce myself. My name is Polly Kinsman, and I've been a SIGNA member for about three years now.I've been growing beardless irises for about 20 years, and have had an at home nursery selling beardless, mainly sibs for 18 years. I have approx 140 cultivars of sibs, approx 180 of JIs, and about 60 species and species X. This year I opened  an internet nursery selling beardless., and am slowly discontinuing my at home nursery.

My question. I know the pod parent for those gorgeous Shimizu pseudatas is Gubijin. I have established Gubijins that stopped blooming about two weeks ago. My first JI is just starting to bloom now. I would love to attempt some of the crosses, but how do I do it with the JIs blooming so much later than Gubijin? I have a friend in Long Island that can send me some pollen off some of her early blooming JIs. Can I keep JI pollen all year long from July to June in the freezer? And if so, any hints on how to do that?

I so enjoy reading the posts on this robin. And thank you for any help anyone can offer.

This spec-x was blooming in my garden earlier this month. So many of
the blooms were deformed, though. I don't know if it's usual for this
cultivar or not.
