Re: Pollen

Polly,

A few years ago I tried digging part of a clump of I. Ensata when it
started to grow in the spring, potting it into a 3 gallon pot, and
growing it in a greenhouse. The I Ensata in the greenhouse bloomed 2
weeks earlier than outdoors so I was able to use it's pollen on a very
few I. Versicolors that were still blooming at that time, although
none of my crosses made pods.

We didn't have a fridge or freezer at the time. Freezing pollen would
probably be easier and less trouble, now. I'll have to try freezing
some pollen this year.

Dennis and Jim, thank you, thank you! Supposedly Gubijin crosses
readily with many JIs, so I can't wait to try it. I've heard Mr.
Shimizu has over 1000 crosses successfully done.

Much appreciated!
