Re: Sisyrinchium palmifolium

I've tried growing several Sisyrinchium species and I kill them all within 1 to 2 years.  Even a locally native variety collected just a few miles from my house withers & dies in my garden.  (I have similar problem with Iris cristata and Iris verna.)

So Sisyrinchiums are one of those plants I view with envy when people in similar climates can grow them successfully.   *ahem!*

Congrats!

It survived last Winter in the ground here in Kansas City. The flowers are only one inch across
but as you can see they make a nice bouquet. The leaves are one foot tall but the scape is at
least two and a half feet tall. This is native to Argentina and Brazil, it probably won't make it
through a bad Winter. We have just the one so I don't know if it will set seed. The flowers open
in the afternoon and are closed by morning.
