Re: First post - question about Iris unguicularis

Geia Sou, Tassos! That's a lovely color variation. 6 years is too long. For some reason your plant is not happy. Maybe not enough sunlight? Maybe not enough water? Maybe the roots are too hot in summer (or too cold in winter)? Try to plant it in the ground. If you can plant it in the ground, I think it should bloom.

I grow this species from a plant collected in Crete. I've had it over 15 years. It bloomed very well for me, but now it is so crowded that it didn't bloom this year. I need to dig & divide it and refresh the soil.

Happy Gardening!

Hello to all members

This is my first post to that group just to make a question to experts.

So 6 years before I went a walk in a small mountain here with my wife and we found a whole yard with Iris unguicularis (a common native iris here in Greece) ,hundrends of plants all very very blue .BUT in the edge of the yard was a plant not blue but almost pink! I carefully pollinate some flowers , i covered with alumiium foil to prevent random pollination (I know about all these because my favorite hobby is my orchids-growing from seeds in lab conditions etc etc ) Âand I went back 10 days after and I Âtook the seed pods . I sow the seeds and they are growing very well in a pot from that time (almost 6 years now) .The plant is almost a small bush but didn't produce flowers yet.Do anyone knows why ?Waht can I do to make it flower next year?I attach two photos Âfrom that time one with the nomal colour and the other I took ethe seeds. The photo colors are not excactly the reality. It was more pink.

Thanks in advance.
