Iris lactea [2 Attachments]

This is another 3rd year seedling I. lactea. It's a slightly shorter
plant with finer, darker, more upright leaves, slightly bluer flowers,
and blooming about a week later than the 1st seedling.

I'm curious about a website that claims I. lactea was banned from
Afghanistan by the Taliban.

It doesn't explain why this iris was banned. Was it a plant that was
lusted after by too many people, or was it an invasive species? I don't
understand why or how a plant native to a region would be banned. Or was
the flower used as a political symbol in the past?
