I'm not planning to do flow cytometry or anything. I'll just go by appearances. Tetraploids should be slightly bigger, with thicker stems & flower parts. Even partially converted plants should be able to produce *some* fully converted pollen, which is enough to get started. I have plenty more seeds to experiment with. My original batch size of 30 might end up being too small. I know that some other people are working on this same activity, and they're a year or two ahead of me. One of us is bound to succeed. Frankly I'm surprised this wasn't achieved 25-50 years ago. For me the possibilities of crossing a tetraploid tectorum with exotic looking arils & arilbreds is tantalizing. I crossed Satan's Mistress with a diploid tectorum last year, but I'm still waiting for the seeds to germinate. I made many more crosses like that this year & I'm waiting for the pods to mature. I hope they're not balloons. I'll probably apply the Oryzalin treatment to those as well.
