RE: FW: SIGNA website -- question about my iris

Ellen,

I think those are Louisiana hybrids but I canât name the cultivar. Definitely not I. nelsonii, though. Nelsonii has little or no signal but your iris has a nice, fancy one. Also, a nelsonii would be a red self and not have styles of a contrasting color. Given the open form, I would guess that the iris is an older cultivar or a seedling. Very pretty, whatever it is.

Hi Ellen,

I like your pictures, but I can't ID them. They may be Louisianas which I don't usually grow.

Does anyone want to take a stab at IDing this cultivar?

Dear KRW â

I must have planted this iris in my always-wet section of garden, but I donât remember ever seeing it before.  Iâm not sure whether it was just hidden in the dread big grass (now mostly gone), was not old enough to flower, or what.  Anyway, I think itâs wonderfulâ  When it first comes out it is reddish, and then a bit more purple, but less so than the picture makes one think.  Fully open, it is a little more than nine inches across. The leaves are about 4 ft tall, the flowers flat.

I wonder if it is Iris nelsonii.

thanks
