Yes the flowers must produce a sort of ant nectar as my clumps always seem to have a few ants. Maybe that is why plenty of seed pods are formed.

A clump of I. lactea grown from Signa seed exchange seed a few years ago
is beginning to bloom. Almost every flower has one or two ants working
around its base.
