Iris verna and Iris unguicularis

I was viewing the photos on John Lonsdale's site tonight (

) and it struck me that Iris verna and Iris unguicularis look a lot 
alike.  Has anyone here tried crossing the two?  I've never grown Iris 
verna to bloom size before, but I'd be curious to see the two side-by-side....
