varietal name is at least doubtful.”<  When Dykes wrote this I am sure that he was referring to the fact that since the ‘Loppio’ seedlings did not necessarily perpetuate the dark color but showed the complete range of colors within pallida that it could not receive the status of a botanical variety which one would consider to be consistent on the trait that gives reason for the name. Do not confuse botanical variety with cultivar in this case. But this statement in know way implies that ‘Loppio’ is a hybrid.
