One other thing it didn't mention in my reply to Dave. Loppio was used a pollen plant on a pallida in one of the test crosses and it seemed to have no problems wit hfertility and produced a normal amount of seeds. This would seem to confirm it as being a diploid and unlikely a hybrid with a tetraploid aphylla.
