Re: OT: variegated glad

Hello Jim,
Very interesting information on your variegated Gladiolus italicus.  I also hope this is a truly variegated form as most glads multiply quite easily.  I am curious is this glad closely related to Gladiolus communis?  I grow this glad in my garden here in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan zone 2b-3.  It appears similar to your Gladiolus italicus, but italicus would be about 3 feet? and communis about 12 to 15 inches.
I wonder if italicus would be hardy here as well.
I don't suppose you would be willing to share some seeds of italicus with me?
Thanks again for sharing the photo.  Can you tell me where you are located?

Subject: [iris-species] OT: variegated glad

While doing garden clean-up last weekend, I found a self sown G.
italicus that is a tad different. Like all other plants this year,
it's up too early. The planted clumps are also up looking normal,
this little guy is a couple feet from any other gladiolus. It may be
large enough to bloom this year. All photos I took make it look like
there are ridges but the leaf feels just like the plain green ones.
Overcast today, but when it's backlit by the sun the stripes really
stand out. I hope this turns out to be stable and can be propagated.
I don't think I've ever heard of, or seen any other variegated
glads. Anyone know of any?
