That would make more sense as an accidental hybrid. I'm surprised that
there aren't more versacorus hybrids, given the popularity of
versatas, pseudatas and the like.

Tamberg has versicolor x tetraploid siberica
(http://www.tamberg.homepage.t-online.de/homep22e.htm), taking
advantage of the tetraploid origin of versicolor. It's a pretty good
indication that tet pseudacorus x tet siberica is possible.
