Wow those are beautiful flowers.  I'm completely unfamiliar with them.  I agree with your assessment of Iris uniflora, that beard-thing reminds me of Paltec or something.

Photos include Iris tenuifolia (Tenuifoliae), I. ivanovae (Pseudoregelia?) and mass-flowering I. potaninii (Psammiris). I'm particularly intrigued by the last photo, though. It appears to be misidentified, as I. uniflora is related to or synonymous with I. ruthenica, and should not have a crest or beard. The pictured flower seems to have both, and reminds me of pallida-tectorum crosses. Is that typical of any pseudoregelias?
