we have hardy species here in Alaska.
I have a large clump growing in a pot that I set in the garden to
reseed a new spot (from the seeds pods growing in the pot) and
forgot to tuck it in for the winter. It survived just fine above
ground. I do have to admit we had an unusually warm and odd winter.
Accoding to Hulten's 'Flora of Alaska and Neighboring Teritories" we
have a small populating of Sisyrinchium montanum near Mount St.
Elias (on the Canadian border in northern Southeast Alaska.)
we have a quite a bit more of S. litorale spread through all of
southcentral and southeast Alaska.
I do not know which one I have since I have not taken the time to
really look that close.
I got it from a friend that dug it out of her small "lawn" of mowed
wildflowers that keep reseeding from her raised rock-garden type
beds.
