Thanks, Rodney, Thomas, Judy, for your replies.
I started to worry if the vinegar would attract fruit flies, so I picked up
a plastic jug of bog water from a roadside ditch bordering a spagnum bog
when I had to drive my sons, yesterday. The Ensata clump in a 3 gal pail
seemed to perk up after that. It is outgrowing the outdoor clumps for
height. Whether the greenhouse clump will bloom earlier than the outdoor
clumps remains to be seen.
I'll try the vinegar water if I'm pinched for time and run out of bog water
one of these days. It would be lots of trouble to create an acid garden bed.
I'll return this greenhouse clump to the garden once it's done blooming. The
species Ensatas seem to do fine outdoors, here, with no special
ammendments, but we've had lots of rain the last few years and
I haven't had to water them.
I do remember slowly killing off several Ensata seedlings a few years ago,
probably from watering them often outdoors with well water.
