Re: Re: "Improved" Iris tectorum registration

OK, OK, You've definitely got a point, Bob. I guess
they are recognizable, when compared to the other TWO
registered tectorums ;0)

Thanks for not letting me get away with being slack.
If it hadn't been for you, I might not have registered
my bearded SPECIES-X, 'Clown Pants', which has been
one of my most useful breeders among my diploid
beardeds. Like you told me then, an iris really should
be documented before it gets distributed. And that one
has been doing some traveling around lately. I'm glad
that you convinced me to register it.

So, I'll get to work on registering at least two of
those three tectorums (the one might have a disease
issue that would count it out).

And Diane, I'll try to keep my eyes (and nose) alert
for those behavioural differences that you mentioned.

Thanks again for all of your helpful comments, guys.
Best wishes, Tom

Tom;

I will go on record as to say the 10ft rule for
species is Hogwash.

If people had applied the 10ft rule to every
registration we would be practically nowhere today
when it comes to advancement of form. Historically
most change has occurred in small increments. If you
do have a sudden breakthough it would be considered by
some as not enough like the species so you can't win
on this argument. Most definitely these should be
registered and introduced so that others may see what
you have and work with it in the future. To date no
one has registered anything like these although I have
seen seedlings that were somewhat similar appear
before. Because they were never registered they
dissappeared. Hybridizers of species that wait to get
something spectacularly different are doomed to never
register anything. Progress comes in small steps and
without the record of registration the process is lost
except for that hybridizer.

What I am advocating is especially true for species.
After hybrids are worked with for many generations
like the tall beardeds and have built a repository of
registered names then we might expect faster progress.
The 10 foot rule might be acceptable today for the
current TBs but is totally unrealistic for species.
PLEASE register. Now that we have 30,000 TB cultivars
the 10ft rule may have some validity but not when you
have 2 registered Tectorums.
