Hi Jim,
Have you tried Iris runthenica 'Gamlin Blue' from Joe Pay Weed's
Garden? I tried to grow it in my climate, after the first year it would
just sit with a few millimeters of leaf tips showing. I assume it was
waiting for a winter that never came. It eventually gave up and died.
"Red Form" grows very well for me and "Royal Miniature" is also doing
well. I have an I. uniflora which did well for a while, but is now in a
steep decline. There is just one fan left on one clump.

say Iris ruthenica. Kazahhstan is too far west for its close relative
Iris uniflora.
Thanks
Ken, I think you are correct. I. ruthenica is so ephemeral I forget
about it. A late freeze kills it here every time I try to grow it.
