I tried to grow it in my climate, after the first year it would just sit with a few millimeters of leaf tips showing. I assume it was waiting for a winter that never came. It eventually gave up and died. "Red Form" grows very well for me and "Royal Miniature" is also doing well. I have an I. uniflora which did well for a while, but is now in a steep decline. There is just one fan left on one clump. I have tried to grow many different Iris runthenic over the years. It starts into growth early and we usually get down into the teens again. That hurts it so badly in never recovers and is dead by summer. As Tony Avent of Plant Delights says, I believe every plant is hardy until I have killed it at least four times myself.
