Re: bloom season

There was a good deal of interet at one time --ca 2000--on the Iris-L about CORSAGE,.which has some apparent broken color featrues which, atypically, are not derived from plicata breeding. You might look it up.

At that time it was said, as I recall, that CORSAGE --which is a mid 1950s iris--arose from close breeding innolving OLA KALA and  KATHERINE LARMON.

OLA KALA is a 48.

KL is a cross of JEAN CAYEUX--48--and something else.

So, while pedigrees and ploidy are not my sport generally, I will say I personally would not look for diploidy there. In fact I'll go so far as to say I don't expect to see much in TBs from after about 1935.

Subject: [iris-species] bloom season

Bloom season is ramping up big time in SW Ohio... tall beardeds are starting to open... species like tectorum are starting to open... and one of my favorites, Satan's Mistress, is going to put on the biggest bloom display I've ever seen.  My tweezers are going to be busy this month!!!

question:  does anyone know if the historic TB "Corsage" is diploid?
