I've not had a problem growing missouriensis collected from the shortgrass prairie in northern New Mexico here in Michigan. It seems at home in my heavy loam. I admit it hasn't flowered in years, but it clumped up quickly and flowered heavily at first. I suspect it doesn't like the competition it's getting from the weeds, but the clump itself hasn't declined in size, it just doesn't flower.
