I had a similar experience with my
first bloom on an "Iris tenuis" SIGNA 15CR028 a few weeks ago:
I already shared this photo with Jim Waddick. The flower does
remind me of Iris tenax and that species grows in north central
Oregon. The form of the spathes and the medium length floral tube
don't fit the species particularly well. Iris chrysophylla also
grows in that area. In his 1959 publication, "Hybridization and
Speciation in the Pacific Coast Irises", Dr. Lee Lens lists
natural hybrids between the two species. Maybe this iris has some
of each species in its background, although I guess the leaves are
a bit wide for either species. It seems that wild plants don't
always read the species descriptions. Ken Walker On 5/18/2020 3:59 PM, Jim Murrain
