RE: differences between chinese irises

Dear Ken,

I grow the following eastern species:
wattii, japonica, formosana, tectorum and the two dubious plants labeled as confusa and sichuanensis.
I. wattii is in the ground under a Ficus australis tree and there are half shade and moist conditions (even if it's hrd to keep moist in the summer, here in the south of Italy).
I. japonica I got a plant in pot and some plants in the ground, always in half shade and moist conditions.
The other 4 plants are in pot, with good soil (half normal soil and half organic soil), always in half shade conditons and I keep all of them moist all year-round, especially in the summer. All these plants are outside without protection.

I don't know where do you live and which climate you have there, but these species surely doesn't like the south italian sun!
