RE: Re: LAs?

I have managd to keep a few alive for a few years. Black Gamecock is one of the  hardier ones, but the most hardy is Eleanor K Wiliamson.

My soil is limesone based, so always resets to ph 7, so I can't keep soil acid like they prefer. So I have given up on them

Will do, Jim.

Chuck, I can't recall if you've successfully grown any LA's.

No I haven't, but I'll put it on my wishlist right away.  Thanks for the suggestion, Christy!

El,

Have you tried the LA 'Black Gamecock'?

We're in a mild zone 4 here (lowest has been -30) but this older cv has withstood not only the cold but total neglect (oops) during a few summers where it managed to survive without extra water during the summers. I suspect it's a lot tougher than most.

In 2001, someone sent me a couple of species I. louisianas and I. virginica to try.  I felt bad when they didn't survive their first winter.
