RE: new member

Dear Robert,

as follows there is my presentation message I sent to this group some weeks ago.
I'm from Italy. Here there are some very knowledgeable people who works on irids, for first the Prof. Maretta Colasante who has described new species and done finally a bit of clarity about some dubious species working with genes and kariotype.
It's a bit difficult to have the literature bcause all are botanical works from universities, but thanking the Prof. Colasante I had a copy of the "2nd international symposium on iris" held in Florence two years ago. I'm trying to be in contact with her but she is very busy in these last years because she is working to a monography of the genus.
And there is another special woman who calls Patrizia Ballesio who I've known by e-mail recently. She is working to collect and study all the ancient italian hybrids, she is doing a great job! She will send me a copy of the book about her work as soon as will be printed.

Yes, I know Janis Ruksans but I never met him as he lives in Latvia and we only communicate with e-mails. I have bought his book too, naturally...and I hope to go in Latvia to meet him in the next spring when his new ad rare plants will be in flower.

Thank you again
fil.

---------------------------------
Hello everyone,

I just joint this group and I would present myself.
I'm 29 y.o. from Italy and I'm iris and irids collector but interested in all rare and unusual geophytes (especially for mediterranean climate).

My job is farmer (fruit's productions) and I'm also very interested in wild flora of Italy. My first hobby is orchids growing, but I'm into irids with the same big passion. My favourite irid genus are Iris (especially eupogon, juno and oncos); Moraea (quite difficult to find species in commerce, I got only 13 species!) and other genus which are quite rare in commerce here in Europe (such as Ferraria, Geissorhiza, Hesperantha and much more).

My first goal is in growing ex situ all the italian iris species to preserve and reproduce its; I'm in touch with some botanical institutions, enthusiasts and botanists to keep on a good information network and exchanges.
Be a member of SIGNA will be very helpful for my knowledges (and hoping I'll be of some help for others too!).

My best regards to everyone, and please be patient for my quite bad english.
fil.
