RE: 'Swerti' spelling


 

Hi Dave,
Unless I go through all the miniature tall bearded list on the AIS wiki I cannot find the reference again but it said something like "in the 1950s Manon group"
about one of the cultivars in that group. That is the only mention I have ever found. Maybe iris catalogues from the 1950s might be the way to go.

Hi Pat,

I don't have any of the AIS checklists handy to look up 'Manon' at the moment, but I can't find any information regarding the name on the internet.  In your photos it looks a LOT like cv. 'Swerti', and I suspect it might be the same plant.  If not, it still definitely looks like a plicata Iris pallida type Iris.

This old cultivar seems related to the iris in discussion. We know it as 'Manon' here in South Australia. To me it is a miniature tall bearded so Iris pallida in the background makes sense. Very elegant and tall with thin stems and small flowers.
