That qualifies for a species topic for me. I think a species-ish rebloomer is a great thing. How's the size on this one, and is that a double stalk, or just a lower branch? I was worried about it blooming out when the pic first loaded, but then I think I do see some offsets at the bottom of the fan. Great pics, thanks for posting. I encourage your endeavors. Good luck. topic but this iris is half-species.
Anyway, thought I'd share this picture of "Rosalie
Figge" X Iris aphylla seedling blooming for its first
time in Maryland (Sept 18). I planted these seedlings
outside in the summer of 2003. I have a feeling its
got the reblooming tendency of its seed parent, but I
doubt it will bloom in the spring. The two increase
fans are just little nubs at this point. I'm hoping
when the clump gets a little size it'll bloom spring
and fall.
I'm trying to get an iris that will rebloom, even when
treated as poorly as I typically treat my irises. I
hope the species-heritage will help out.
