Iris tectorum should do well for you. I wouldn't sink them.

They can survive winter here in Ontario Canada, but do die out every couple of years. But I keep some in pots in the window and they bloom inside.

So they will easily survive any cold they get at your placed and get enough cold to initiate bloom.

Dennis,
Let us know how they do there. Thinking of adding Irises, I got some
forms of Iris tectorum from Iris City Gardens as well as the plant markers.
I am very pleased. Since I heard of someone having success with Iris
tectorum around 90 miles south of me, I thought it is worth a try. The
Iris tectorum are in pots with a good potting mix like Iris albicans. I
wonder if I should leave them above ground like Iris albicans, or sink them
into the ground?
