Re: new acquisitions...

Hi Dennis,

Lots of success with your new irises! I grew a couple of Tetra Calsibs, one plant  from Tomas Tamberg and some seedlings out of Tamberg seeds. The sedlings didn't last very long but  the plant was beautiful and looked very healthy. After about 5 years we had a hard freeze in June, killing many iris scapes, but the Calsib did not survive. I have tried dip crosses and managed to bloom several, but all gave up the ghost after a couple of years. Below a picture of a dip calsib, the only surviver, not my own but out of seeds from
BIS. I had started the seeds in my rock garden, but then was afraid to move it. Well. it is still there, a large clump, but i don't dare touch it. It is strange tht it has survived in a place that I consider too dry. this makes me wonder, perhaps the others died because of too much moisture, I will try and remove a portion of the plant and see if it will transplant well.

I have REALLY scaled back acquiring irises in the last 5 years,
including this year. But this year I've done something quite
different. I just got a package in the mail with my new Spuria,
CalSib, and PCNs!

The PCNs I'm going to try potted, so I can bring indoors during cold
spells. And the others will go outdoors. I haven't got a new Spuria
in about 10 yrs, so I'm excited. And I've never tried a CalSib.

I'm excited! :-)
