Re: SIGNA donations

Hi Dennis,

Sorry to hear about hear about your bad luck with bearded iris seeds this year. I managed a number of successful crosses between several Iris lutescens collections out of France, and obtained seeds from a couple other "regular" bearded iris species.

The last pod on my Iris domestica is spitting open. I have a few more pods on Iris dichotoma that are nearly ripe. As usual, pods on Iris giganticaerulea and Iris tridentata are taking their time ripening.

I'm sending my SIGNA seed donations in tomorrow.  I had a horrible
season for my bearded irises.  I think there was 3 or 4 separate hard
freezes throughout April and into late May, all spaced about 2 weeks
apart, and it just ruined them.   I got ZERO pods on my beardeds this
year.  I think that's a first.  However, my later blooming non-bearded
irises had a fabulous seed-setting season.  I had to wait for Iris
domestica and some tetra versatas to finish ripening, but now they're
harvested & ready to go.
