Thanks for the reply, Patrick. It's interesting to listen to the things
another person looks for in an iris. As for the recurved falls on
arilbreds, I like that better than the horizontal falls on modern TBs
because the recurved falls make the flower look bigger when you are looking
at a clump from a distance....you can see more surface area of the flower.
That's also why I like so many historics too.
I like the signals for the contrast. I am growing some of Howard Shockey's
unregistered seelings with bright ruby red signals. They are TDF! (IMHO)
I am trying pure arils for the first time, and they seem to have survived
the winter with no problem. I will be sooo happy if they bloom because
then I will have 100% tet aril pollen to use on my other irises...to give
me fully fertile halfbred seedlings. Even if the pure arils don't survive
long term, at least they will give me pollen to use in my hybridizing plans.
