Actually, since most of the world was dominated by sailing ships at one
time or another, and that even the estimable Aussies held the America's
Cup (at least for a bit) that many would recognize to "deep six"
something as throwing it over board. tossing it alee, flinging over the
fantail, casting to the wind or otherwise getting it offa the ship
(metaphorically speaking) - from the dictionary - to throw overboard,
abandon, discard, reject
